Introduction
In Singapore’s history, communists often feature as dangerous antagonists of the 1950s and 1960s. It was the Communist Party of Malaya (CPM, also known as the Malayan Communist Party)
My Childhood Experience
When I was about 9 years old, the communist uprising in Singapore was a very real fact. There were the Chinese School students riots and the burning of cars. But the worst was the planting of booby traps in way out places. If someone steps on one it will blow up and maim them. They were trying to overthrow the colonial government. One day my dad drove us back from the beach at Changi on a weekend and we saw overturned cars and burnt cars on our way home. Fortunately, we managed to drive home safely.
